Iyanya Shuts Down Lagos At Signature EP Unveiling Concert

Iyanya was at his waist-twisting and torso-baring best on Wednesday night when he unveiled his new EP, Signature. He rolled back the years by performing live songs from the highly anticipated 7-track album on stage at Hard Rock Café, Oniru, Lagos in an Industry Night Special.
Dressed in a colourful camouflage-jacket, the Mavin Records artist mounted the stage at midnight and left no one in doubt inside the packed hall that he was well and truly back. Like an artist with a blank canvas spread out before him, Iyanya jumped, whined and crooned on the big stage fully aware that it was his night for the taking, and he owned it.
On the same night, his seven-track EP was released online to a global audience and has since dominated discussions on social media. Entitled ‘Signature,’ the body of work was produced by Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy assisted by Altims and Baby Fresh.
Iyanya has been on a new lease of life since being backed by leading talent agency, Temple Management Company and Mavin Records. As if by celestial conspiracy, the Lagos weather even attested to Iyanya’s new found mojo as it gave way to heavy rainfall that poured while his performance continued safely inside the comfort of the walls of Hard Rock Cafe.
His performance was a medley of songs from his new EP such as Odoyewu, Hold On, Baby Answer, Not Forgotten, Celebrate, Nobody Has To Know, Bow For You and bonus track Up 2 Sumtin featuring Don Jazzy and Dr Sid.
Attesting to Iyanya’s new found vigour, Dr. Sid told the audience something many have never heard about Iyanya. The We Up crooner had joined Iyanya to perform the hit, Up 2 Sumtin. To buttress his point further, Dr. Sid went on to reveal how Iyanya is having a healthy influence on his Mavin Records colleagues.
“Iyanya is the best thing to happen to Mavin Records. He has made the rest of us look lazy with his work rate and I am not saying this because he is here. Iyanya has recorded over 50 songs in less than three months!” Dr. Sid exclaimed.
The most emotional moment of the night came when he performed a sober tune, Not Forgotten, the most introspective song off his EP and inarguably his most personal to date. For a moment, it seemed as if the singer would break down in tears.
At his request, Mavin Records producer, Altims played the piano in the background whilst Iyanya stood still, eyes shot and lost in his own thoughts for what seemed like forever. Iyanya is an orphan having lost his parents two years apart in 2008 and 2010.
For Iyanya’s Mavin Records colleagues, the night was a karaoke session as they sang ever song line-by-line with the musician. Iyanya would later describe the Don Jazzy founded group as a “happy company” and expressed how “blessed” he was to be a member of the biggest record label in Nigeria.
The late evening of fun also witnessed brilliant performances by two Temple Management artists, Gongo Aso crooner, 9ice and ex-winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa, Jeff Akoh. Jeff sang to a live band and served as a more than capable foil to Iyanya whilst 9ice performed his smash hit Living Things.
From a corner occupied by Mavin Records artistes, Don Jazzy danced and sang along happily through Iyanya’s performance. Virtually all the artistes on the label were present including Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, D’Prince, Dr Sid, Dija, Reekado Banks, Poe and DNA Twins. Other artistes and celebrities who came to support Iyanya include Tekno, Sheyman, Reminisce, Uche Jombo and Ebi Onome among others.

Fire guts Ebonyi Government House

The accounts section of the Ebonyi Government House was on Friday gutted by fire which disrupted activities within the complex.
No life was reported lost in the fire which started around 9 a.m.
Dr Kenneth Ugbala, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. David Umahi on Internal Security, told NAN that it took the combined efforts of workers and the State Fire Service to put out the fire.
“The fire outbreak was caused by a faulty electrical connection within the accounts section and the level of damage was minimal.
“An upholstery and cottons within the section were completely burnt and we would ascertain the true extent of damage when the fire service concludes its task,” he said.
An eye-witness, who spoke under the condition of anonymity, told NAN that the fire started with a thick fume emanating from the accounts section.
“The shouts for help attracted workers who used improvised items such as water and detergent to put out the fire before the arrival of firemen,” she said.
Mr James Owoh, the state Chief Fire Officer, said that his officers promptly responded to the distress call from the Government House.
“We have always been responsive to distress calls and Government House officials acknowledged that the situation was promptly put under control,” Owoh said. (NAN)

Iyanya is the best thing to happen to Mavin Records--Dr. Sid

'Surulere' crooner, Dr. Sid said kind things about his label mate, Iyanya, while on stage at the EP unveiling concert which held at Hard Rock Café, Oniru, Lagos.
Performing on stage, Dr.Sid declared that Iyanya has been a very positive influence on other members of the Mavin Records. The concert held at Hard Rock Café on Wednesday, March 30 and lasted till the wee hours of Friday, March 31.
Iyanya is the best thing to happen to Mavin Records. He has made the rest of us look lazy with his work rate and I am not saying this because he is here. Iyanya has recorded over 50 songs in less than three months” Dr. Sid exclaimed.

The two linked up on stage to perform Iyanya’s hit song, Hold On which also featured Don Jazzy. Iyanya’s new EP is entitled Signature and features seven songs with a bonus track produced by Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy and their two other producers, Altims and baby Fresh

Corruption should be treated as a crime against humanity---Osinbajo

Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo has said that corruption should be treated as a crime against humanity.
Osinbajo also said that Nigeria had been facing difficulty in recovering looted funds from foreign countries.
The VP made the comments on Thursday, March 30, while speaking at an anti-corruption forum in Paris.
Countries hosting global financial centers, and other usually targeted destinations of illicit flows must be held more accountable to enforce mechanisms which ensure transparency of ownership, control, beneficial ownerships, trusts and other legal contrivances that may be used to camouflage financial or other assets,” he said.
Open contracting and information systems, are also crucial. Responsible government authorities ought to have information about which companies won what contracts, and what they have paid as taxes to governments in host and home countries.
This is especially important for the extractive industry. Nigeria is committed to these standards having joined the Open Government Partnership in 2016.
The tracing, freezing and return of stolen assets has proved in many cases to be exceptionally difficult for most African countries. We in Nigeria have seen just how difficult it is to get back stolen assets from the international financial system, banks, that ought not have received those funds in the first place if the most routine question were asked.
There is now hardly any credible opposition to the notion that corruption and Illicit financial flows constitute perhaps the gravest challenge to development. And this is especially true of developing countries.

Indeed there is a sense in which corruption, grand corruption should be regarded as a crime against humanity. Corruption and illicit financial flows are different. But they really must be twinned. This is because for practical purposes it is an eminently more sensible approach to treat most of the sources of illicit financial flows as corrupt activity, within a broader use of the term,” he added.

Jubilation, as Omoni Oboli's 'Okafor's Law' starts showing in cinemas

After what seemed like a nightmare, Omoni Oboli can breathe a sigh of relief as the court has lifted the  injunction  stopping the cinema release of  her controversial movie, Ökafor's Law.”
The movie will now start showing  in cinemas across the country from Friday, March 31, as planned.
The premiere of movie was stopped last Friday, at the IMAX Cinema in Lagos, following a court injunction. The order also restrains the release of the film scheduled for March 31. But yesterday, Omoni took to her Instagram page to break the cheery news that “Okafor's Law”would start showing in cinemas nationwide from today(tomorrow Friday, the 31st of March).
In a video she posted on Facebook page, the embattled actress said, “I am happy to let you know to the glory of God that an injunction has just been lifted AND Okafor's Law will start showing in cinemas nationwide from tomorrow(Today).”
Justice N. Buba of the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, reportedly lifted the injunction while stating that the movie should not have been prevented from showing in the first place since the copyright claim suit is yet to be determined by a competent court of law.
Recall that sometime in September, last year, the actress was accused of copyright infringement by a Canadian-based Nigerian script writer, Jude Idada. But Omoni swept the accusation under the carpet as she went ahead to complete the movie and set dates for its premiere and cinema release. This infuriated the representatives of Jude Idada, who took the matter to court for copyright infringement and trademark violation.
Only on Wednesday, Justice Buba ordered that advance copies of court processes be served on counsel to the other defendants in the suit including Dioni Visions Entertainment Ltd, Omoni Oboli, and The Filmone Ltd by email, so as to ensure that the justice of the case is achieved in good time.
The judge is said to have issued the orders, following an ex-parte motion by a company Raconteur Production Ltd, on behalf of Jude Idada, seeking same reliefs.
Defendants in the suit are Dioni Visions Entertainment Ltd, Omoni Oboli, and The Filmone Ltd.
The court had issued the orders, suspending the release and launch of the film, in any movie theatre or cinema house on March 31, pending the determination of a motion on notice before the court.
The judge had also issued an Anton piller Order (order to enter and seize) to seize all copies, materials, projections or infringing materials, relating to the subject matter.

Strange! Vulture turns to a woman in Port Harcourt?

It sounds like a fairy tale,  but it happened today, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, Nigeria.
An eye-witness, Ijeoma Ekwoaba shared the gory picture of weird-looking woman on her Facebook page and wrote, " Passing through Agip road this morning, I saw a crowd gathered on the road, blocking the free flow of traffic. When I inquired, I was told that a vulture flying across, perched on an electric wire, but instantly fell from the wire and turned into the woman shown below in the picture."
"This type of story usually sounds like fairy tales to me. But seeing this image, kept me wondering; if our people have such power to recreate themselves into any being they desire, why is Africa still dependent on the Western World for technological innovation."
However, cases of this nature abounds. In 2014, at the G-cappa Estate area of Ilupeju, Lagos, a bird allegedly turned to a woman. According to eyewitnesses at the scene, the bird collided with an electric wire and fell, after which it changed to a middle aged woman.
Eyewitnesses further recounted that the woman, after the transformation, began to confess on how she killed her husband.Black witches!

DSS seeks working relationship with Nigerian bloggers

Executive Members of GPBN during their visit to DSS office in Lagos
Members of the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria,GPBN, have been enjoined to support the Directorate of State Security (DSS) in ensuring security of lives and prevention of crimes in the country through formidable partnership.
State Deputy Director, Ahmed Ade made the appeal when he received delegation of the Guild at the State Headquarters of the agency in Lagos,  led by its Acting President, Chris Kehinde Nwandu (CKC).
Ade noted that cyber crimes have recently taken newer dimensions in the country but the agency which frowns at the level is poised to frustrate perpetrators of such acts, “but needs the cooperation and support of media professionals who should see themselves as stakeholders and Patriots in the fight”.
He observed that though crime is being perpetuated by some unpatriotic Nigerians, the level is not as high as these are being magnified in the media compared to what obtains in many advanced countries.
“We do not wish to reach the level some of these countries are presently fighting, hence we solicit media support”, said Ade.
He enjoined media practitioners to see themselves first and foremost as Patriots, which should reflect in the content of news delivery “especially when reporting sensitive issues bordering on National interest”.
The DSS assures Nigerians that its doors are always open at any given time to volunteers of sensitive information that will lead to the prevention of crimes anywhere in the country.
He commended the idea behind the formation of Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria; urging Bloggers to always verify all information being published in order avoid unnecessary litigation.
Nwandu in his remarks urged the Agency “to open a more robust means of communication for Nigerians to report issues relating to crime without unnecessarily endangering their lives especially when such privileged information gets into the hands of same people being accused”.
Nwandu appeals to the Security outfit to ensure it builds more confidence and trust in Nigerians so that they will be willing to volunteer information without fear to their lives.
The GPBN according to its President, Chris Kehinde Nwandu was formed in order to streamline the practice of Blogging and Online Media Practices.
Its aims and objectives are to bring some level of Professionalism into the Profession bearing in mind inherent ethical behaviours.

The relationship between Nigeria and Saudi Arabia is a mutually beneficial one, which should grow stronger in the years to come, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.
Receiving the outgoing Ambassador of the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Fahad Bin Abdullah Sefyan, in a farewell audience at State House, Abuja, Thursday, the President observed that the relationship between the countries was strong, adding that apart from visiting Mecca and Medina for religious reasons, a lot of Nigerians are in Saudi Arabian universities.
Noting that the last farming season was quite good, and the Nigerian economy was gradually reviving, President Buhari said the two countries would have more areas to collaborate in future.
"I quite appreciate the relationship between the two countries," the President stressed.
Ambassador Sefyan, who spent 20 months on tour of duty, said he loved it in Nigeria, and would have wanted to stay for longer, if not that he was now due for retirement.
He commended President Buhari's visit to Saudi Arabia in February, last year, urging that there should be reciprocal visits between the leaders of both countries.

BBNaija: Tension as TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bally and Marvis up for eviction

Palpable tension may have returned to the Big Brother Naija house as today's fresh nominations put TBoss, Debie-Rise, Bally, and Marvis up for eviction, just less than 24 hours after the trio of Bally, TBoss and Debbie-Rise narrowly escaped eviction.
The house also experienced a rare change in leadership as Bisola became victorious in this week's head of house contest, after over 78 days of anticipation and several botched attempts at clinching the house leadership. She emerged top after winning the head of house contest. Bisola replaces Efe, who was the immediate past ultimate head of House and was unfortunately nominated for eviction but was saved by Bisola, the new queen of the house.
Meanwhile, today's nomination jolted some of the housemates as they all sober with the eviction fever making them sit back and re-think their strategies. For embattled Debie-Rise and TBoss, synergy appears to be the working strategy as both openly canvassed for voters’ support.
Recall that both of them have been up for eviction back to back in the last two weeks.
Meanwhile, Bisola remains the only housemate that is yet to be formally nominated for eviction.
The ninth eviction show holds on Sunday, April 1, 2017.

Unfortunately, for Omoni, while the guests were already present for the premiere, it was announced to the surprise of everybody that an injunction had been gotten to prevent the premiere of "Okafor’s Law" and also its release on March 31 with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Defendants in the case, being Omoni Oboli, Dioni Visions and Filmone Distribution.

Copyright infringement against Omoli Oboli: Let the law take its course--Jude Idada

When Canadian-based Nigerian script writer, Jude Idada accused Omoli Oboli of copyright infringement in respect of her much-talked about movie, "Okafor's Law", the actress did not do anything to address the matter. Instead, she went ahead to complete the movie and set dates for its premiere and cinema release.
This infuriated the representatives of Jude Idada, who took the matter to court for copyright infringement and trademark violation. But unfortunately, she got what she did not for last Friday evening, as her guests who were already present for the movie premiere, left the venue without seeing the movie. It was announced to their surprise that an injunction had been gotten to prevent the premiere of "Okafor’s Law" and also its release on March 31 with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Defendants in the case, being Omoni Oboli, Dioni Visions and Filmone Distribution.
Addressing her guests at the botched premiere, the devastated actress, flanked by a host of Nollywood actresses including, IK Ogbonna, Ini Edo, Uche Jombo, Kemi Lala Akindoju, Chioma Chukwuka, Ufuoma McDermott among others, broke down in tears as she insisted that she wrote the movie 100%. But when contacted, Jude Idada, who is currently shooting a movie in the country confirmed the incident. According to him, his lawyers advised him, not to talk about the matter since it's already in the court. "Let the law take it due cost," Jude said.

Stephanie's mother at the church service

Amid the sex scandal rocking General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) Worldwide, Apostle Johnson Suleman, the embattled cleric has said that he has forgiven Stephanie Otobo, the Canadian-based singer who alleged that they had an amorous relationship between 2015 and 2016.
Suleman made this known during the church’s service on Sunday where Stephanie's woman and her eldest came to ask that he forgives her.
Suleman also had a message for Nigerians. “Be careful how you discuss men of God,” he said. “Men of God are not political office holders. You didn’t vote for them…. Whether the man is fake… the man is real, it is not your business…. Leave him to God,” Suleman adds.
Suleman also said that some lawyers are “pushing” Stephanie to release videos but what she doesn’t know is that as she releases the videos, Canadian Immigration is gathering them as evidence so that she can be deported. He advised the mother to ensure that her daughter gives her life to Christ, saying in as much as I can't stop the law, I forgive her from my heart."
In a video released last week, Stephanie’s mother was seen telling a couple of individuals that she wants the issue to “die down” as she is tired of the shame it is bringing to her family. She added that she has not seen Stephanie for about three years
Stephanie, while reacting to the video, claimed that her mother was arrested twice and was pressured to make the statement.

Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo in trouble

Top Ghanaian actor John Dumelo appears to have landed in trouble after he was allegedly caught with a state vehicle by government agents. According to reports, the vehicle is a Toyota Land Cruiser V8.The vehicle was said to be one of the 200 vehicles the presidency says are missing.
John Dumelo was caught with the vehicle at a spraying shop in Accra where he had allegedly taken it to be resprayed.According to reports,he initially said that the former first lady, Lordina Mahama, gave him the vehicle. Then he reportedly changed his tune, saying that he bought it himself. However, a look at the car's chasis number (VIN number) is said to have given him away.He reportedly handed over the car without any resistance.
Last year, the star actor was spotted cruising around with a Toyota Land Cruiser car. However,it is unclear if it is the same vehicle that was seized by government agents.
It should be recalled that John Dumelo was an ardent supporter of former president John Mahama ahead of the December election.Alongside Nigerian Dele Momodu and others,he travelled across the country campaigning for Mahama, who eventually lost to Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).At a time he was at a loggerhead with star actress Yvonne Nelson because she was against Mahama's administration.

The Governor said activities should be seen as youthful exuberance.
"What he is agitating for, is what others are agitating for too. But he used the wrong language and insulted leaders including myself. But this is the time for national reconciliation," The Sun quoted Okorocha as saying said.

Jim Iyke, Stella Damasus reappear in America!

Nollywood bad boy, Jim Iyke, who has been missing on the big screen in recent times has resurfaced in America. He was one of the seasoned actors that featured in Lancelot Imasuen’s upcoming romantic comedy titled “Yet Another Wedding Day,” which was shot in the States few weeks back. Starring alongside Stella Damasus and Joseph Benjamin, Jim Iyke has rarely been seen on the big screen in recent times. The last that was heard of him was when he featured in actress Joselyn Dumas’ programme on Africa Magic last year.
But starring in this new movie as Damola marked a comeback to his first love-acting. Jim Iyke Lancelot who returned to the last week recounts that it was a comeback movie for Jim Iyke, whom he said, had a swell time with his colleagues on set. He described the six man-cast movie as “another unimaginable trailer from me.”
Recall that the popular director cum producer early this year toured America again with his award-winning comedy movie, ATM (Authentic Tentative Marriage), which premièred at Dallas and Houston, after it was screened at the Denton Black Film Festival,on the 29th of January. It was while on the tour that he shot the movie.
According to him, “I shot a major project tentatively titled “Yet Another Wedding Day” where I starred seasoned actors including Stella Damascus, Jim Iyke and Joseph Benjamin. We also introduced two great actors that Nollywood will very proud of in due time, Felix Omotoshe, and Seirail, Nigerian-born America actors. It is another unimaginable trailer for me, a romantic comedy. But this time, it’s deeper with stronger theme.”
“I discovered we are not crafting stories around the second generation of Africans in diaspora. That’s what we explored in “Yet Another Wedding Day”, where we looked at the host society and the diasporan society. The movie is in its post-production stage,” Lancelot hinted.
“In this film, we were able to bring to bed, in-house conflict between the first generation diasporans that travelled out of Africa and their second generation kids that were born in America.”
The film is a six-man cast, and it’s described as ‘a great thriller’ by the celebrated director. Lancelot said, they spent about five weeks, shooting the movie, with his partner, Whitestone Productions Pictures, an American production outfit owned by Robert Peters.

Marriage or no marriage, I am with my children — 9ice

Abolore Akande, popularly known as 9ice has come a long way in the Nigerian music industry, having gained recognition in 2005, after releasing his first single, “Little Money”. Since then, the ‘Alakpomeji’ crooner’ has not slowed down in his quest to be on top of his game. Recently, he signed a new deal with Temple Management Company, TMC, which marked a new beginning in his musical career. But beyond this, 9ice craves for happiness in all ramifications. He believes that not having children from one woman can deprive him of his happiness. In this engaging interview , 9ice speaks about what gives him happiness, his music, new management and marriage.

You recently signed a deal with Temple Management Company, how are you enjoying the new experience?
Like you said, it’s a new experience for me. So far so good, I’m welcoming all the ideas and experiences. I’m loving it. You once lamented the difficulties associated with an artiste managing himself. Now that you have a management in place, how far do you intend to go in your career
An artiste will go far because he has all the time to creatively create a new sound. Now, he has people that monitor your image out there, book shows for you and ensure that you dress in a particular way. So, the artiste’s sole priority is to make music unlike before, where you have to be your own manager, your own booking agent and promoter. My sole priority now is to create good sounds.

When you were managing yourself, what was it like?
It was hectic but also, fun. This is because it was a new industry that was growing up then. So, to find myself in that situation at that time was new to me even though I was having fun.

When you were managing yourself, what was it like?
It was hectic but also, fun. This is because it was a new industry that was growing up then. So, to find myself in that situation at that time was new to me even though I was having fun.

What motivated you to go into politics?
We tried politicians, they failed us, the media failed us too. We have not tried pastors and entertainers. So, if a press man is qualified to be a politician, what stops me from going into politics. Am I not a Nigerian? I can vote and be voted for. So, what’s wrong with my going into politics?“

It’s unusual seeing a musician going into politics?
Well, to see a musician at my level going into politics is new in Nigeria. But we are being used by politicians as tools for their campaign. So, I will rather campaign for myself and do what I need to do because I know how to deliver and I have my name to protect. So, why do I need to campaign for another person.

What was the experience like?
I learnt a lot of lessons and I can tell you that it will take God Almighty to reposition Nigeria. Yes, I can say that I would have won my primaries if they had allowed my Local Government to vote. In spite of that, I defeated about three sitting commissioners. I came second during the primaries, so, it was a wonderful experience for me. I don’t have any regrets, but going into politics taught me a lot of things. That’s why I said earlier that it would take God Almighty to reposition Nigeria.

Did you go into politics because music at the time wasn’t as challenging as it used to be?
Yes, it wasn’t and I said it loud and clear. Music wasn’t challenging any more, in terms of the drive, the motivation and the passion. Those days, you hear someone’s songs and you want to become a better singer. It wasn’t like that any more. People dance to the beats. We listen to music because we want to learn something, not because one wants to dance to the rhythm. That’s my school of thought. So, music wasn’t challenging to me at the time I went into politics. When I was coming up, it was challenging then.

What’s your greatest hit that each time you listen to it, you feel like remixing the song?
It’s the song I titled, “Any Time.” It talks about my life and experiences. While I was growing up, the things I experienced in my life; how I scaled through the hurdles of becoming a man. I am planning to do a remix of the song with Youssou N’Dour. There’s a statement credited to you that you wished all your children came from the same mother. Are you regretting your marital life? There are so many things anybody can wish himself in life. I can wish to be the governor of Lagos State. Need is different from want.

But does it mean that you have not been lucky, in terms of marriage?
I am very lucky and I am happy with what I have. Being married does not mean that you are going to be happy, unless we want to deceive ourselves. Supposing your ex -wife, Toni comes back to you, will you give her another chance? She’s with me and we are both happy. She’s living her life while I’m living my own life. Happiness is the most important thing. Don’t let your family push you into doing anything you don’t like. If you want to stay in marriage, all well and good. But if you think not getting married gives your happiness, don’t marry. It is not by force that one must marry. God is not going to punish anybody who refused to get married.

So, how do you run your home?
How I run my home is different from how you run your own home. I might not be the one running the home. It might be the mothers of my kids who are running the home in my absence and they are doing it perfectly well. And the glory will come to me. When it comes to marital issues, it is a game of luck. Nobody can come and tell me that I’m perfect that’s why I’m married. We all know how it’s being done. People have issues in marriage everyday. What I want in my life is happiness and I’m having it now. And I’m loving it. Marriage or no marriage, I am happy and I have my children. That’s the important thing to me. Another source of my happiness is my focus on my music. If you are happy, you can make the next person around you happy. What I want in life is happiness, whether I get in marriage or out of marriage, is irrelevant to me.

At what point did you start enjoying the reward of your sweat?
At the moment, I released “Gongo Aso”as a single, not as an album. When I released my first album there were many singles that were making it. But I can’t genuinely say I have arrived. But when I released “Gongo Aso”, as a single, it announced me. After which I released album after album.
