Why They Wanted Me Out As National Chairman Of APC – Oyegun

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Chief John Odigie Oyegun Thursday explained that his loyalty to the present administration led by Muhammadu Buhari, was the reason why he is being persecuted by some disgruntled elements in the party who wanted him out as National Chairman.
Oyegun who spoke in Benin, Edo State, at an event organised in his honour by the Benin National Congress (BNC), said the only thing his adversaries could punish him for is his loyalty.
He said: “I grew up in an environment where bringing disgrace to the family is the worst thing you can possibly do. Even the family will be the first to disown you.
“In all my life, this is the circumstance that has conditioned me. I do not do things that will not make me sleep soundly at night. I do nothing that will appear as headline in any of the national dailies.
“I have been through several trials, but I have overcome them all. Why have I done so? Because at the end of the day, whether detailed or forensic examination, you will not find that your own Oyegun has done something dishonorable.
“And so, with all the hue and cry, at the end of the whole thing, when we sit down and ask, tell us what he has done, behold the whole situation fizzles out.
“The only thing you can punish him for is loyalty. Edo people are loyal. We look at something, we make sacrifices to ensure that those hands are upheld and neat.”
The APC National Chairman who urged Nigerians to be patient with the present administration in delivering the right and purposeful leadership for the country, noted that change takes time, consistence of applications, adding that Nigeria cannot afford to go back to the old days.
Earlier in his welcome address, the President of Benin National Congress (BNC), Mr. Aiyemenkhue Edokpolo, said Mr. Oyegun took steps to preserve the sanctity of the presidency, protected the interest of Nigeria as one and indivisible nation and defended the founding values of his party, when President Muhammadu Buhari went on medical vacation, during which the nation wet through series of frightening challenges.
Edokpolo who described Oyegun as a distinguished Benin and humble son of Edo State who has made landmarks in civil service and party politics, said the APC chairman deserved the honour, which he said was why the Benins decided to honour him as a role model.

Marketers Assure Nigerians Of Steady Supply Of Petrol

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) has assured Nigerians of regular supply of petrol, in spite of the N600 billion owed it by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
Its Executive Secretary, Mr Olufemi Adewole, gave the assurance in a statement issued in Lagos on Thursday.
Adewole said that apart from the N600 billion the NNPC owed DAPPMA members, it also owe the marketers over N800 billion.
“Marketers have continued to sacrifice to keep the country wet with fuel, despite over N600 billion debts owed our members and over N800 billion owed marketers as a whole,’’ Adewole said.
He said that in spite of the unsettled debts, members of the association were still distributing petrol to every part of the country.
According to him, the essence of our initial ‘Press Release’ is to throw light on salient issues surrounding the shortfall in current petrol supply which is solely being handled by NNPC.
“It was not an attempt to join issues with PPMC/NNPC with which we are partners.
“NNPC’s view about our press release stating our side of the story and seeking to defend marketers for the very first time against the unwarranted accusations of hoarding and profiteering is rather unfortunate.
“It is an undisputable fact that DAPPMA members have paid for petrol supply (with bank funds) for over one month, the value of which is in excess of N90 billion, yet PPMC/NNPC has no cargo to allocate to them.
“As such, how can we be held responsible for hoarding,’’ he said.
Adewole said that PPMC/NNPC did not transact business with DAPPMA members on credit; hence the company was not aware of any indebtedness to PPMC/NNPC by our members.
“We again reject any attempt to blame marketers for the shortfall in supply, as it is not our making since NNPC has been the sole importer since October 2017.
DAPPMA had on December 26 expressed concern over the inability of NNPC to supply petrol to its members’ depots.
NNPC also accused DAPPMA of owing N26.7 billion on petrol.

Motorists Receive Petrol Free Of Charge In Ogun

The Department of Petroleum Resources, Abeokuta Field Office, on Thursday dispensed petrol for free to motorists again in Abeokuta.
The filling station, Daslap Petrol Station, Olomore, was allegedly caught selling above the official pump price.
The team, led by its Head of Operations, Mr Kasali Akinade, said the action was necessary to make others comply with the law.
“We got a tip-off that this station, Daslap, had fuel but they were selling above the pump price at N200 per litre.
“On getting here, we also had evidences to support the claim.
“When we checked their fuel stock level, we discovered they had 33,000 litres. In order to serve as a deterrent to others, we decided to ask them to give their fuel for free.
We said they should give fuel to 20 motorists and 30 bikes for free,” he said.
He noted that most of the marketers sold at night and “ungodly hours, when they know that officials cannot visit their station”.
Akinade, however, accused some security agents of sharp practices, thereby making the DPR’s work more difficult.
“Most of the law enforcement agents are not really helping matters. Some of them collect Jerry cans, some of them bring in vehicles from the exit points while we are trying to arrange and create sanity within the filling stations,” he said.
Assessing the situation in the state, Akinade described it as ‘artificial’, noting that most of the stations had petrol, but were either hoarding or selling above pump price.

Road Accidents Claim 166 Lives In Ogun

Road accidents have claimed 166 lives in Ogun State in the last 11 months, says the Ogun State Sector Commander, Clement Oladele.
Oladele disclosed this on Thursday at the 12th Annual Road Safety/Walk/Road Show of Temidayo Ogan Child Safety and Support (TOCSS) Foundation, held in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, Ogun State Command along the border communities of Ogun and Lagos States.
Oladele said the figure represented a reduction from what was recorded last year in Ogun State in which 270 people died, adding that the goal of the command was to ensure 8.2 death per every 100,000 and to further reduce it to the barest minimum, saying that advocacy was key to doing this.
On the theme of the safety walk, which is “Safer Mental Health, Safer Roads,” Oladele said it was in line with the United Nations Decade of Action Plan to halt road fatalities as well as in line with the FRSC vision.
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander, Clement Oladele (left) with Temidayo Ogan, Executive Director, TOCSS Foundation during the walk.
He said the mental state of individuals would to a large extent determine safety on the road, saying that drivers taking alcohol before driving, people with unstable mental health conditions or family challenge or having lost a job should desist from driving as such people could contribute to crashes on roads.
Executive Director, TOCSS Foundation, Mrs Temidayo Ogan said many road traffic accidents and deaths in Nigeria were recently analysed and that the analysis results indicated the mental health status pattern.
“So, it is in response to the hidden road traffic and high risk factor that the foundation launched the ‘Safer Mental Health, Safer Roads’ campaign, adding that every road user required 100 percent mental health or concentration level to avoid road traffic incidents and crashes while using the roads.

The Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Maihajja, made this known while receiving a fresh batch of 257 Nigerians who arrived from Libya.

Maihajja assured them that government would treat all information with utmost confidentiality and secrecy needed.
The DG also allayed their fears of facing “spiritual “consequences for exposing these evil persons, stressing that they had a duty to educate the public on what they went through in the volatile North African country.

Zik Zulu Okafor predicts bumper year for Nollywood

FRONTLINE filmmaker, critic and former National President of Association of Movie Producers,AMP, Mr. Zik Zulu Okafor has predicted that the Nigerian movie industry will witness a bumper year in 2018, despite the prevailing economic depression in the country.
In a chat with HVP, at the just concluded Best of Nollywood Awards,BON, held last Saturday night at the Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, the frontline film maker expressed optimism that Nollywood would make significant contribution to the nation's GDP in the coming year.
According to him, “I see more cinema houses springing up as a result of what the government is doing presently. There will be bigger movies and bigger revenue emanating from the movie industry. Nollywood will contribute significantly to the GDP of this country. In terms of our contribution to the GDP, it dropped this year. But I'm hopeful that it will raise next year.”
The former AMP boss, however, lamented lack of funding, describing it as a big challenge for the movie industry. “Nollywood needs a lot of training and government can still help in this area. Government need to support Nollywood with training facilities,” Okafor posited.
Reviewing how the industry has fared during the outgoing year, Zik Zulu scored the movie industry very high, adding that the industry has done very well in this outgoing year. “It's raising the bar with many quality and commercially successful movies such “Wedding Party 2”, '76”, “Okafor's Law”, “A Trip to Jamaica”, “Olobiri” among others. Also, the cinema houses are expanding and we now have more screening centers. Before now, we had only few screening centers. The industry is on the movie,” said Zik Zulu.
Speaking further, Zik Zulu praised the government for its encouraging participation in the indsutry. In his words, his optimism that the industry will witness a bumper year is based on the fact that the government is finally beginning to understand the huge potentials of the creative sector and has shown the willingness to effectively activate a number of initiatives that will move the industry forward.
“The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed is one of the best ministers we have had in recent times in terms of paying attention to creative industry with quality thinking, quality observation and quality results. The minister has indeed inspired the industry and given us hope. He's working to see how the BoI can bring down the interest rate to 9 percent for the NollyFund. Indeed, government participation is very fantastic in the outgoing year. We have never had the kind of interest government had shown in the industry as we are having at the moment. It's about laying proper foundation and improving on it. I think this administration is doing well in that area,” he said

OIC declares East Jerusalem Palestine capital, blasts Trump

Muslim nations grouped under Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), have declared East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine.
The IOC consequently striped the America’s President, Donald Trump the role of a peacemaker in the region.
In a draft declaration prepared for the summit of the Muslim leaders in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday, the leaders said they considered Washington’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel as a sign of U.S. withdrawal from its role as a sponsor of Middle East peace.
The draft statement said leaders, ministers and officials from more than 50 Muslim countries “declare East Jerusalem as the capital of the State of Palestine, and invite all countries to recognize the State of Palestine and East Jerusalem as its occupied capital.”
It described the US decision as “a deliberate undermining of all peace efforts, an impetus (for) extremism and terrorism, and a threat to international peace and security”.
Wednesday’s summit was hosted by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan who has bitterly criticized the United States, a NATO ally, for its stance on Jerusalem.

President Donald Trump had on December 6, recognized city of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, a decision that stirred mixedreacting among world leaders and Islamic leaders.

Libya Slavery: NANS Lauds Federal Government’s Efforts

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), on Friday, lauded President Muhammadu Buhari on the steps being taken to end enslavement of Nigerians in Libya.
The National Public Relations Officer of NANS, Bestman Okereafor, gave this commendation in a statement issued in Enugu.
Okereafor said that the report of “Libyans slave-trading’’ on Nigerians was a slap on the face of Nigerians and democracy in Africa.
NANS also appreciated Sen. Kaka Baba-Bashir (Borno Central), for sponsoring a motion on the urgent need to protect the Nigerian citizens from being sold into slavery.
“NANS, however, lauded the pro-active gesture of the president for finally acknowledging the suffering of our people in Libya and promising to transport them back home.
“This is a step in the right direction; as the giant of Africa, we must warn the Libyans in very strong terms to stop killing and enslaving our people,’’ Okereafor said.
According to him, NANS is passionately calling on Nigerians to stop chasing shadows abroad and come back home to be partners in progress in the development of Nigeria.
“Even NANS will be engaging the Libyan embassy in Nigeria,’’ he said.
The presidency had set-up a high-powered committee to check the rising spate of human trafficking in Nigeria, especially young people crossing over to North Africa and Europe.
However, millions of Nigerians had expressed sadness on the recent development in Libya; slavery and slave trade, which happened in Africa about 100 years ago.

Nigerians Stage Protest Against Slave Trade In Libya

Slave trade of African migrants including Nigerians is currently ongoing in Libya. This, exposed by CNN in a video has brought the people to their consciousness, especially those who did not know that such barbaric practice is still in existence.
It took a Nollywood actress Georgina Onuoha, who in a video decried the plight of the sufferings of Africans being sold into slavery in Libya and others who die in the mediterranean sea all in a bid for greener pasture. Georgina called out celebrities to use their popularity, lend their voices to stop the evil practice. She said that when other countries are facing issues of flood, violence e.t.c, we are usually the first to speak up and support them, so how come we are silent at a time like this in our own country. This move however made an impact as American superstar Chris Brown and other public figures including Omoni Oboli, Mercy Aigbe, Uriel Oputa, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Dbanj, amongst others have at different times on social media voiced their dissatisfaction with the issue.
Today 1st December 2017, Nigerians staged a protest led by Tope Fagunwa at the United Nations High Commission Office on Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Lots of supporters joined the movement chanting ”We are Africans, Solidarity forever, we shall always fight for our rights as well as Say no to Libya Slavery and Black lives Matter” and also holding placards with various inscriptions about poor governance and slavery.
Issues like minimum wage, high inflation, hunger, the president seeking healthcare abroad, unemployment, bad governance and corruption were listed as some prevalent issues making youths endanger their lives on the Mediterranean, just to get a better future, not knowing if they will arrive Europe or not.
Although majority of artistes who promised to participate in the protest did not show up, Celebrities like comedian Seyi Law, Nigerian-German musician, producer and social activist Adegoke Odukoya, better known as Adé Bantu, and other Nigerians were present at the peaceful protest, walking to and from the AU office chanting with placards and back to UN office where they spoke alongside some organisations supporting the movement, addressing the causes and suggesting possible solution to the problem.

* Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso

Another big shot in in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is set to resign from the party as the race for the 2019 presidential election gathers momentum.
Already President Muhammadu Buhari has signified his intention to seek re-election in 2019 in far away Abidjan, Cote d’ Ivoire where he is attending the AU/EU Summit.
Buhari told the Nigerian community there during a meeting that he decided to take along two governors to the summit to court the people for votes in the future.
To actualise his presidential ambition, come 2019, Kwankwaso, the former APC presidential aspirant, has directed his supporters to decamp to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Revealing this in Kano, a nephew of Kwankwaso who is also the Kano State Commissioner for Special duties, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso, said the former governor told his supporters to move over to the PDP so as to be able to contest the local government election coming up in the state.
“Already, he has given the go-ahead to his supporters to join the PDP in Kano State so that they can contest in the forthcoming local government election in the state. But what I can assure him is that the APC will win all the 44 local governments because of the growing supporters’ base of Governor Ganduje.
“It was because of Kwankwaso that the chairman of the PDP was thrown out of office because they wanted to hand over the party structures to him ahead of his defection,” Ilyasu revealed.

“They want to use red caps to cause confusion during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit next month. We will not allow that because Kano people are for Buhari all the time,” he said.
