THE Performing Musicians Association of
Nigeria, PMAN President, Dr. Gbenga Falope, in a statement has
assured that the body will key into the programme of the family of
late reggae legend, Augustine Onwubuya popularly called Ras Kimono
who passed on late Sunday after a brief illness.
“Ras Kimono was very supportive of my
administration especially when I assumed office some couple of months
ago,” Falope said adding that the African continent would miss the
musician who ruled the airwaves and dance floors across the continent
in the 80s through late 90s. “He (Ras Kimono) was truly a legend, a
man of peace, and he would be remembered as such. That is why I and
the executive as well as all PMAN members across the country would
key into the family’s burial programme and give him a befitting
ceremony reserved for people like him.”
Meanwhile, Falope with members of the
National Working Committee have embarked on states chapters
restructuring.
The exercise is in line with the
directives of the PMAN regulatory body, the Trade Union under the
Ministry of Labour and Employment aimed at having a correct database
for the artistes’ body according to international best practices.
Elections, according to Falope Jr have
been conducted in some states chapters with new executive put in
place. “And more state chapters are warming up for elections too.
Subcommittees have also been established at the national level to
embrace members and stakeholders of the union,” the PMAN president
said.
The subcommittees headed by renowned
musicians and professionals, shall go a long way in bringing peace,
unity and progress to PMAN, the statement said even as he reiterated
that PMAN is “one indivisible body. We have no faction because the
Industrial court has resolved that issue of authenticity long ago.
That is why we call on to join hands with us to take PMAN to its once
enviable heights.”
