Popular film maker and founder of
Nollywood Igbo Film Festival,NIFA,Nze Harris Chuma recently addressed
the issue of increasing divorce rate in Nigeria, especially in the
entertainment,blaming the
malaise on the inability of the female
celebrities to separate the world of make-believe from their
marriages.
Chuma's voiced his opinion after news
of the annulment of actress Tonto Dikeh's marriage to her ex-
husband, Olakunle Churchill went viral on the Internet few weeks ago
as well as the sustained marital crisis between actress Mercy Aigbe
and her estranged husband, Lanre Gentry.
Chuma said 'the problem with our
colleagues is that they have failed to separate the world of make-
believe from their marriages."
"A movie is scripted and the
actors act according to the script. But in marriages, there are many
flaws that spring up even when you are not expecting it," he
added
However, frowning at Chuma's comments,
actress Uche Elendu said 'it’s not anyone’s business."
“I don’t think it’s anyone’s
business. We can pray for them. Nollywood is made up of different
people from different backgrounds with different orientations. Did
we help them to make their choice of life partners? Why should we now
discuss their choice to go their separate ways?” Uche Elendu
queried
Reacting in the same vein, Alex
Eyengho, Vice President of the International Federation of Film
Producers Association, FIAPF, advised celebrity couples to remain
truthful to their marriage vows. “Celebrity couples should know
that they are in the eyes of the public. They have fans and are
almost always seen as role models and as such must endeavour to
always do that which is right before man and God,” he advised.
