Charlie Murphy, Eddie Murphy‘s older
brother who enjoyed success as a popular stand-up comedian in his own
right is dead.
According to Charlie’s manager, he
died(aged 57) from leukaemia early this Wednesday morning in a New
York hospital. He’d been going undergoing
chemotherapy for some time.
Family members told TMZ they’re
absolutely shocked because they thought he was getting better.
It is reported that the family would
call him frequently, and he’d even joke they were calling too much. He was a star on the ‘Chappelle Show’
Charlie famously co-starred on
Chappelle’s Show in some of Dave Chappelle‘s most memorable
skits, including the nights Charlie partied with Rick James and
Prince.
Charlie also co-wrote some of Eddie
Murphy’s movies, like Norbit and Vampire in Brooklyn.
He co-starred in Are We There Yet?, The
Boondocks and Black Jesus.
Fellow comedian and actor, Chris Rock
expressed his sadness, saying, ‘We just lost one of the funniest
most real brothers of all time. Charlie Murphy RIP’.
Charlie’s wife, Tisha Taylor Murphy,
died in 2009 from cervical cancer. They had two children, and he had
another from a previous relationship.
