Nigerians have been called upon to come to the rescue of ailing reggae star, Yellow Banton who is currently battling cancer of the skin.
This call was made by veteran actress and broadcaster, Mabel Oboh through her non-governmental organization, Centre for Save Our Stars- the first NGO caring for Nigerian entertainers.
At a media chat at O'Jez Restaurant, National Stadium, Surulere, yesterday, Oboh alongside ‘Denge Pose’ crooner, Friday Igwe popularly known as Baba Fryo and Chinagorom Onuoha better known as Africa China appealed to the conscience of well-meaning Nigerians to support the ailing reggae star financially in order to undergo necessary surgery to stay alive.
According to Oboh, “We have done series of tests for Yellow Banton and we would still do more. We might lose him if nothing is done urgently. But we don’t want that to happen. So, we are pleading Nigerians to come to his rescue. A lot of entertainers are dying today because nobody is taking care of them. This begging and dying must stop. Many entertainers are in terrible health conditions and we just have to end this scourge. We are also encouraging them to save for a rainy day and stay off drugs and other ugly activities that would drain their pockets." She said that the reggae star needs about N6 million to undergo surgery as soon as possible before the cancer spreads to all parts of his body.
African China who is the foundation’s ambassador pleads: “I have been involved in this type of project about 19 years ago. It is what I am passionate about. If you remember the song, ‘SOS’ in the album, Mr. President,’ we campaigned for a girl. Thank God she is alive today. We need your support. It can happen to anybody. We are begging Nigerians to assist us, nothing is too small.”
Looking pale, Uti Nduka Kennedy a.k.a Yellow Banton said: "The wound has been there for long and its been growing. They told me it is cancer. It is still this same cancer that killed my elder brother who is also an albino like me. It ate up his eyes and his ears fell off."
This cancer is rampant with albinos. Please, I don’t want to die. Help me!
