It was no coincident last week, when
NTA, started showing again the filmic adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s
best selling novel, “Things Fall Apart”, several years after it
was yanked off the air.
Many viewers got glued to their TV
screens, but the gesture was for only one man and the person is Pete
Edochie.
The veteran actor marked his 71st
birthday on Wednesday and the largest network in Africa deemed it
necessary to honour the man popularly known as ‘Ebubedike following
the role he played in that production as Okonkwo with showing of
“Things Fall Apart” again. However, NTA was not the only
organizations or individuals that paid tribute to Pete Edochie. Also,
some of his colleagues in the movie industry sent congratulatory
message to him. One of them was President of Actors Guild of
Nigeria, Ejezie Emeka Rollas. In his message, Rollas prayed that God
in His infinite mercy should grant the ‘Ebubedike of Nollywood’
many more years of fruitfulness.
“We cannot quantify the contributions
of our father towards the continuous development of the industry. He
is a great man and as a great man he has and still doing great things
both individually and collectively. His fatherly role on and off
screen cannot be over-emphasized. We pray that the Almighty grant him
many years of fruitfulness in good health and in his lifetime will
witness the greatness of the industry he strove to build. Happy
birthday,” he wrote. Also, in his Instagram post, his son, Yul
Edochie
described his father as a “ true
legend”, praying that God will continue to strengthen you, every
new day.
