A young farmer, Lawal Babatope Alex,
has launched what he calls 'FlexFarmer initiative' in Ogun State, in
line with the federal government's plans to transform the country’s
agricultural sector.
Speaking with newsmen recently, Lawal
said FlexFarmer is an agricultural initiative set up by his company,
Flextree Limited.
According to him, the initiative
allows individuals who do not have prior knowledge of agriculture to
invest in the sector. “It also gives the FlexFarmer a flexible
approach to farming,” he added.
While there are two stages involved in
the scheme(Pre-planting and planting operations as well as Post
Planting operations),Lawal said company would provide free land for
planting in addition to training the Flexfarmers in both practical
and theoretical knowledge of activities they perform, give regular
update and progress reports, harvest, store and market finished
products.
Speaking further, Lawal said under the
pre-planting and planting operations stage, his organization is
poised to provide one acre of Farmlot to every Flexfarmer upon
registration online. “All you will be required to pay for is
service charges to cover basic services and utilities such as
irrigation, security among others.”
“Upon becoming a FlexFarmer, you are
given a tour of the land, each stage of the process you are invited
to see the ongoing activity, regular reports are sent to show
progress, and adjustment or decisions are done with your
knowledge,”he added.
However, listing some of the benefits
of becoming a Flexfarmer, Lawal said it's a secondary form of income
which has every capacity of surpassing your primary source of income.
Also, “You need no prior knowledge of agriculture to participate
fully in this scheme.”
