Organizers of the African Film
Festival, which second edition is billed to kick off on Saturday,
June 24, in Dallas, the United States have named legendary actor and
politician, Richard Mofe Damijo,RMD, as host of this year's TAFF.
The festival director and founder of
TAFF, Kelechi Eke disclosed this development to HVP, while in a chat
with him on WhatsApp. Actress, Uche Jombo hosted last year's
edition.
However, apart from RMD, other top
Nollywood and African film makers and stars expected to attend the
festival include, Lancelot Imasuen, film director, Ike Nnaebue;
Joseph Benjamin, Adeyemi Okanlawon. Others are Ambassador Mykel
Parish Ajaere, Judith Audu, Emeka Obiakonwa, Atlanta-based Director
cum Cinematographer, Robert Peters, Producer Neville Navada.
Also, attending the festival are Kenyan
Actress/Producer/Humanitarian Ruth Ndulu Maingi, Kenyan Hollywood
Actor and last year's co-host, Sir Benjamin Onyango, Gambian Producer
Alhagie Manka, Ghanaian Producer Arthur Mensa; Producer Billy Kwasi
Richardson, Congolese Producer/Actress Soleil Diva; Sierra Leone's
Actor Mohamed Bah; Liberia's Producer Dr. Clarice Kulah; Tanzanian
producer Honeymoon Mohammed; Ethiopian Actress/Activist Yeharewerk
Gashaw, Malawian Actress Agnes Nkhata; and many more from 26
different countries whose films were selected to this year's
festival.
The festival which holds at the Dallas
City Performance Hall will be opened to the general public from
Friday, June 30. It will climax on the 3rd of July with the awards
night.
The three-day event, according to the
organizers, will showcase films made by Africans, as well as a few
made by non-Africans about issues important to different regions of
the continent. Last year, Patience Ozokwo a.k.a Mama G, was one of
Nollywood’s stars who was honoured with the 2016 African Film
Legend Award at the festival. While it lasted, city officials hailed
the new festival as an expression of the increasing ethnic and
cultural diversity in Texas’ second-largest city.
