The
Department of Theatre Arts, University of Jos Plateau State is set to
honour its best graduating students as well as deserving graduates in
the profession. The event will hold on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Elim
Hotel, Jos.
committee, Dr.
Victor Anyagu, said this year’s awards mark the fourth year of the
award. “This year, we decided to look inward to award some of our
graduates who are making us proud, such as, Bethel Njoku (Senator),
Stanley (Funny Bone) and Sunom Kura. We are doing this to motivate
our students to aspire to do more to be successful, and it is a home
coming for the trio. We want to appreciate them for representing us
well out there. I assure you that every student here is looking
forward to seeing the popular comedians and Kura.”
Anyagu said
the department always looks inward to identify those who have
achieved some level of professional excellence in the field. “We
have had some local government chairmen. We have also had members of
House of Assemblies as awardees,” he added.
The
lecturer said the three have always been talented since their diploma
days in University of Jos, adding, “they were the first set of
students that I taught; they were the first people that I put on
stage. You can now understand that right from the beginning, I saw
something in these students that I knew was going to yield positive
results. These are people I can recommend and have no doubt about
their capabilities.
