Omotola Fights for Girl-Child Education at Big Brother NaijaHouse

Ace actress and ONE ambassador, OmotolaJalade-Ekehinde, popularly known as Omosexy, recently visited the Big Brother Naija house to deliver a message from ONE, an international campaigning and advocacy organisation.
During her visit,Omotola solicited house mates’support for ONE’s Poverty is Sexist campaign, which is targeted at convincing political leaders to pay more attention to the education of the girl child.
Reading ONE’s letter titled “A letter to the leaders” to the house mates,Omotola informed them that over 130 million girls around the world are denied basic education, “if the number of girls out of school around the world were to be a country, it would be the 10th largest country in the world, bigger than Japan and Germany. Education is vital part of our lives, it is also vital very in moving out of poverty.”
“All children deserve a good education, but in the poorest countries girls are denied it more often than boys. Education is vital for moving out of poverty. Every additional year of school that a girl completes increases her future earnings, which is good for her family, her community and her country. We are coming together and uniting across our divides to get every girl into school and to make sure she gets a quality education once she's there,” Omotola read.
She also informed them that from March 8 celebrities around the world would sign letters to make a case and draw attention of political leaders to girl-child education.
The ONE campaign brings to the fore the fact that girls in the poorest countries, which includes Nigeria, are less likely to receive an education than boys. This means a generation of adolescent girls is being denied the education they need to get a job, broaden their opportunities, and break the cycle of poverty.
