Omotola, Lancelot Imasuen, Ali Nuhu for honour at BON awards 2017

Leading actress Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde, Ali Nuhu and popular film maker, Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen are the recipients of the Best of Nollywood Awards 2017 Special Recognition award, the organizers have announced.
The event holds on Saturday, December 16, at the Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State. The chief host is the state governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
Speaking on the choice of the awardees, Seun Oloketuyi, executive producer, BON Awards, said “We are glad to announce Omotola Jalade Ekehinde, Ali Nuhu and Lancelot Oduwa-Imasuen as recipients of this year’s Special Recognition Awards. You would concur that they deserve it for their achievements and contributions to the industry.”
Continuing, Oloketuyi said “in the last decade, no actor from the northern part of the country has broken barriers and crossed over to the mainstream Nollywood like Ali Nuhu. Apart from that, he has inspired an entire generation of Northern youths to see a career in Nollywood. He is a true and constant Northern legend, not just a star.”
Describing Omotola as Nigeria’s biggest cinematic export, Oloketuyi said, “There was no contest in her choice in spite of her relatively young age. Here is a lady who broke into the industry before she turned 18 and two decades after, is still a veritable box-office face in an industry known for ephemeral stars. It goes beyond luck. The recognition from TIME Magazine as one of the Most Influential 100 people in the world in 2013 is a pointer to her relentless artistic enterprise and ingenuity. And we, at BON Awards are happy to be associated with such iconic actor.”
Oloketuyi described Lancelot Oduwa-Imasuen as a director’s director. According to him, “Lancelot’s longevity and relevance in Nollywood is the stuff of legends. In spite of the incursion of younger, technology-savvy directors into Nollywood, Lancelot has evolved and attained a pied piper status of sort. He deserves the recognition like the others.” Over the years, the BON Awards Special Recognition has been received by among other actors, Liz Benson-Ameye, Nobert Young, Pete Edochie, Adebayo Salami and Kasim Yaro, a legend in the Hausa entertainment industry.

Breaking: Atiku Abubakar quits APC

 (Full letter)
Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress.
Abubakar confirmed this in a statement he personally signed on Friday.
He also gave reasons for quitting the party.
However, he did not state which party he intends to join, but said he is pondering on his political future.
The statement, titled: “Statement of resignation of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Waziri Adamawa) Vice President of Nigeria, 1999-2007 from the All Progressives Congress,” reads in full…
“On the 19th of December, 2013, I received members of the All Progressives Congress at my house in Abuja. They had come to appeal to me to join their party after my party, the Peoples Democratic Party, had become factionalized as a result of the special convention of August 31, 2013.
“The fractionalization of the Peoples Democratic Party on August 31, 2013 had left me in a situation where I was, with several other loyal party members, in limbo, not knowing which of the parallel executives of the party was the legitimate leadership.
“It was under this cloud that members of the APC made the appeal to me to join their party, with the promise that the injustices and failure to abide by its own constitution which had dogged the then PDP, would not be replicated in the APC and with the assurance that the vision other founding fathers and I had for the PDP could be actualized through the All Progressives Congress.
“It was on the basis of this invitation and the assurances made to me that I, being party-less at that time, due to the fractionalization of my party, accepted on February 2, 2014, the hand of fellowship given to me by the All Progressives Congress.
“On that day, I said “it is the struggle for democracy and constitutionalism and service to my country and my people that are driving my choice and my decision” to accept the invitation to join the All Progressives Congress.
“Like you, I said that because I believed that we had finally seen the beginnings of the rebirth of the new Nigeria of our dreams which would work for all of us, old and young.
“However, events of the intervening years have shown that like any other human and like many other Nigerians, I was fallible.
“While other parties have purged themselves of the arbitrariness and unconstitutionality that led to fractionalization, the All Progressives Congress has adopted those same practices and even gone beyond them to institute a regime of a draconian clampdown on all forms of democracy within the party and the government it produced.
“Only last year, a governor produced by the party wrote a secret memorandum to the president which ended up being leaked. In that memo, he admitted that the All Progressives Congress had ‘not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance’.
“Of the party itself, that same governor said ‘Mr. President, Sir Your relationship with the national leadership of the party, both the formal (NWC) and informal (Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), and former Governors of ANPP, PDP (that joined us) and ACN, is perceived by most observers to be at best frosty. Many of them are aggrieved due to what they consider total absence of consultations with them on your part and those you have assigned such duties.
“Since that memorandum was written up until today, nothing has been done to reverse the treatment meted out to those of us invited to join the All Progressives Congress on the strength of a promise that has proven to be false. If anything, those behaviours have actually worsened.
“But more importantly, the party we put in place has failed and continues to fail our people, especially our young people. How can we have a federal cabinet without even one single youth.
“A party that does not take the youth into account is a dying party. The future belongs to young people.
“I admit that I and others who accepted the invitation to join the APC were eager to make positive changes for our country that we fell for a mirage. Can you blame us for wanting to put a speedy end to the sufferings of the masses of our people?
“Be that as it may be, after due consultation with my God, my family, my supporters and the Nigerian people whom I meet in all walks of life, I, Atiku Abubakar, Waziri Adamawa, hereby tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress while I take time to ponder my future.

“May God bless you and may God bless Nigeria”.

I'm going to lead Isoko nation to its promise land, says Zeb Ejiro ...as he declares his political ambition, Feb.2, 2018

Popular Nollywood producer, Zeb Ejiro, OON, has announced that he would declare his 2019 political ambition on the 2nd of February, 2018, and it would happen at his home town, Ozoro, in Isoko Local Government Area, Delta State.
He described the move as “the beginning of a new journey in his life.”
Recall that in May, this year exclusively reported that the creator of the popular soap opera, “Ripples” which ran for five years uninterrupted on NTA before it was rested in 1993, was preparing to delve into politics, ahead of 2019 general elections.
Zeb is planning to contest for the House of Representatives, Isoko Federal Constituency, in Delta State.
The popular producer said he's going into politics to make a positive change that can impact on the lives of the Isoko people. “Isoko nation contributes heavily to the economic development of the country as oil producing community, yet there is nothing to show for it. My slogan is putting the people first before any other thing,” he said.
Disclosing the date to nollytainment, while in a chat during the week, Zeb said “It's going to start a new journey in my life and a new path for the Isolo nation. It is high time my people begin to look for someone that is ready to serve them. My people have suffered a lot over the years. If you go to the Isoko nation today, there is nothing to show that the place is an oil producing community.”
“For me, the area looks rejected and abandoned. Successive governments in the country have done nothing to improve the lifestyle of the people in terms of the infrastructural development of the area. Also, the political leaders of the area have failed the people. There is neither federal government nor state government presence in Isoko nation till date. There is nothing to show that we have leaders in Isoko. Isoko nation contributes about 10 percent to the national coffer. It is not fair to the Isoko nation. Our leaders have not represented us well. And that's why I am coming out to serve my people. They need a voice, they need to be heard and they need somebody that will take their cries to the national stage. No other person can do it better than myself,” Zeb added.
Speaking further, he said “ the signs are there that the Isoko nation needs someone like me to give them a voice. That is what I'm going to do for the Isoko nation. I want to make the Isoko nation proud.”
Zeb, however, did not disclose the political party that he wants to use to actualize his ambition, promising to announce the same on the day of his declaration. “But I can tell you categorically that it will not PDP. The party has failed this nation. APC has also failed this nation. I tell people that I am not a politician, rather I am a leader. A politician lies and he's not sincere. I am a leader, I have come to lead my people to their promise land. I have transverse the length and breadth of the Isoko nation and poverty is all over the place. Somebody needs to change that orientation. Isoko people are looking a true change that they can see and feel it. That's what I represent,” declared Zeb. The seat is presently occupied by Hon. Leo Ogor who, according to Zeb, is considering of the possibility of vying for the seat for the fifth time in a row.

Misplacement of priority as Okorocha unveils statue of Liberian president, Johnson-Sirleaf

*Liberian President, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf with Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha
Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, Friday, unveiled a statue for Liberian president, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, in Owerri, which many have described as a misplacement of priority.
The statue was unveiled at Ikemba Ojukwu Square in Owerri, the state capital, next to the N520 million bronze-cast monument of South African president, Jacob Zuma, that earned Okorocha public condemnation when it was unveiled in October.
The Liberian president arrived in Owerri on Thursday, November 9, on a two-day working visit and was at the governor's Rochas Foundation College of Africa early on Friday.
She had high praise for the governor's foundation, remarking that it was the best she's ever seen in all her travels.
She said, "I have travelled to every part of the world and I have travelled all over Africa, I have never experienced something like this. I have seen leaders of Africa build schools, roads, give scholarships, and so on, in all of these things.
"I have not seen any of them go beyond the ordinary by gathering indigent children of Africa from all of our countries, bring them together in our family, sharing together, I thank you. There is no other better way to fight poverty and preach unity than this."
Africa's first elected female head of state was also honoured with the chieftaincy title of Ada di Ohanma of Igboland at Eze Imo's palace led by Chairman of the State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Samuel Ohiri.
A road in Owerri was also named after the president.berian-President-Ellen-Johnson-Sirleaf-with-Imo-State-Governor-Rochas-Okorocha
